I agree and disagree with the blogging assessment system for many reasons. The pros of the blogging system are, it can help students work on their writing, and it prepares students for college requirements. The negative side of the blogging system is, it can affect our grades and not knowing what to write after I have proved my point.
First, blogging helps us students work on our writing. In most of my classes we do not write much. Besides taking notes and taking tests. Blogging takes us out of our usual rutein and makes us do something extra. The last time I wrote an essay was last year. This year I am asked to do so every week as a graded assignment. Also as Mr. Meechin said, we can send colleges our writing. What is better than sending a million blog topics and weekly articles to the college we apply for? My writing is not the best but doing blogs helps me work on my writing.
Next, Blogging prepares students for college requirements. Students like myself are all use to writing short little paragraphs as a requirement for a class assignment. The weekly article is an assignment that challenges many of us to expand our writing. It makes us go into details and specifics instead of being broad. 600 words minimum is our weekly assignment. I thought Mr. Meechin was crazy when he said this. Two blog topics plus a weekly article. From what I have heard essays are done weekly. Us students our in a habit of doing broad paragraph assignments. This also helps improve and give us an idea of what we will be doing in college. We will be using our computers for every assignment. We will be doing a lot of researching and writing essays on what we have researched.
After, weekly blogging can affect our grades. Blogging can affect our grades in many ways. For example not being use to the amount of writing done at home is stressful on students. When I was told that I had to write 600 words each week on a topic that I did not find easy I just decided not to do them. Two days before the quarter ends I realize now that the weekly article is a big part of our grades so I have no choice but to do them. Also, there are times where every teacher gives us an assignment and we have to get it done by a certain day but, there is no room for students to finish all assignments at once because there is just to much. Although we have a whole quarter to finish all the blogs that are assigned students tend to get lazy and forget they have these assignments that are due. Also, I work nearly every day and I have no time to myself. So the time that I do get to relax is spent on sleeping and not on the blogs.
Last, not knowing what to write about after I have proved my point. We are assigned to write a 600 word essay on a certain topic that most of us do not like. For example, there is a girl in my class who does all her work and pays attention to every detail that is said. She says the weekly articles are easy but not enough information to give about the certain topic. I believe the weekly articles should be cut down to 400 words minimum. After proving our points why should we keep typing about things we do not even know about what we are writing about? Students add extra information that is not necessary. They are just trying to get to a certain limit.
In, Conclusion, blogging helps with our writing, helps us prepare for college, blogging affects our grades, and lastly adding extra unwanted information are all reasons why blogging helps and does not help us students. I believe there should be blogs but cut the weekly articles down to 400.
