Avatar

Imperialism is a stronger nation over powering a much weaker nation. In the movie avatar planet earth tries to take over the avatars planet. With all of their technology they are able to do so. In a much aggressive manner. In our case the united states tries to over throw others government and put in pro united states governments. Not many were successful but others were. In the movie avatar the take over their home. They walked in as if it were their home. They knocked things down they tore everything apart. Was it right? No! But of course “the bigger man wins”. They were vulnerable. Nothing they did or tried to do could stop them from letting earth upon their territory. When the humans tried to convince them to move and they did not listen the humans had no choice but to over power them with their technology and move right on in. The stronger nation always wins. They will do what they have to do to get what they want. In this case the humans wanted the avatars land but the avatars would not listen. They thought of it as their home. The humans were not going to sit there and listen to a weaker nation. All the humans had to do is walk right in and take over the territory that they wanted. When the humans went into the forest in where the avatars lived they were knocking down trees and everything in their way. Although the avatars were a lot taller than the humans they were vulnerable. They could not keep up with the humans advanced technology. The avatars were not armed. They had no choice but to run from the stronger apposed. And, of course the stronger nation won. Earth lacked resources that the avatars had. So they decided to over take the land. What ever the earth wanted they got. That is just how stronger nations work. Earth needed resources that they did not have. So they went on and found what they needed and where it could have been found. So they took over the weaker nations land. When earth realizes they need something they will go and get it. That is what happens with the united states of America. We know we are a strong nation so we continue to look for weaker ones to overthrow and use their resources for what we need. Such as goods, foods, etc. Their will always be a stronger nation picking on the weaker one. In the avatar Earth needed land resources that they did not have. But they found what they did not have somewhere where they knew they could take it from. So they went on and tried to over take what they were there for. If earth was a smaller nation than utopian than it would have been different. The earth would have token a step back and keep their needs to themselves. Earth models imperialism by being the bigger nation. Utopian is the weaker nation.

dog fight

In the war there were different styles of fighting. Ground fighting and air to air combat. Dogfights were very dangerous. In the game I was worried more about crashing into the floor rather than getting shot down. The controlling of the plane was probably difficult. If I was a pilot fighting air to air combat I would be nervous. I would try my hardest to shoot down rather than getting shot down. Pilots were probably to focused on the task at hand. Until they knew they were going down than they would probably start to think about the negatives.

Air mail

Mailing was the only way of communication. It must have been frustrating for most people. Not being able to communicate within minutes. When I am texting and the other person is taking longer than five minutes I get mad. Not knowing if your loved one is still alive and they are impatient to receive letters insuring that they are ok is a pain. Fast communication is a big part of our society today. Receiving a letter from a family 10 days later is not a quick way of communication. Some people would receive letters after their loved one was killed.

Panama Canal

Scared, nervous, unaware of whats going to happen next, are emotions I feel while I help build this massive canal. We all do our jobs and we get picked off one at a time as if we are animals. Race does not matter black, white, native American... we're all going. One falls there is another to replace him.

Safety

United states should not allow an organization in which they train civilians to be a mass killer. Training people for no specific cause can lead to a reckless society. On the site it explains how hundreds of thousands of Latin Americans were tortured, raped etc. We should not follow in their bad foot steps if we want to keep a well maintained society. For example, their was a highly trained ex marine who committed suicide. He was armed and had many weapons in his house hold. He could have done much more damage than what he did because of his well trained experience.

yellow journalism

Yellow journalism is the over exaggeration of a specific topic during an amount of time. For example, in school, rumors spread quickly and others want to be informed with the details. News channels do the same. They find a certain topic to discuss until they find another topic to blow up. News headlines use over exaggeration.

weekly article

During the civil rights movement African Americans were treated bad. Also, during the reconstruction African Americans were treated horrible as well. African Americans were treated um-human like. They were not given the rights to vote. They faced discrimination all the time. Everywhere they went they would face discrimination. When they would apply for a job they would not get it. If they did want a certain race to be hired they would not hire them. They were also denied the access to places. Such as restaurants, buses, etc. They were also split schools. White and African Americans. They were treated just above slaves. When African Americans were given jobs they got the crappy jobs. Ones that paid to just barely survive. They did not have a wide variety of choices. What ever they can get they took. They would also separate the African Americans with whites. They would have separate theaters, restrooms and transportation.

History

Countries leave most of the pieces of history out because they dont want to make it seem as if they have failed. It is important to let others know the truth and what really happened. We should not be lied to or not told the whole truth. People may not see there losses of wars as bad things or there mistakes as a fail. People can learn from the past mistakes and overcome them or just take a different approach. Everyone is different and may feel a certain way. Countries should not leave any piece of their history out, it is important to know everything that happened in past history.

Does history matter?

History really does matter. Documents and what we learn about in class or from textbooks is the only form of the past we have. Its good for young kids and adults to know and hear bout the past. The wars, all the documents. slavery all that happened in the past should be known in our world today. The people now could learn from the mistakes others have made in the past. History is really important and should keep being told about and spoke about.

weekly article

Cowboys in movies are fake! Living the life of a cowboy is not easy. Its more of a job rather than a part on a tv show. Cowboys take care of the ranches. Taking care of them are not easy. The duties of a cowboy are care for the ranch, have great skills, and physically fit. These are not all the skills cowboys needed to have to be a great skilled cowboy. Here is what their daily lives were like in the past.

First, Care for the ranch. Cowboys had to take care of the ranch. They were needed to take care of the cattle also help cure them. Sometimes animals would get cuts or even big wounds. Cowboys were needed to cure them and keep them healthy. Cowboys would work under any weather condition. Rainy, sunny, and cold they were out doing their job. Cowboys needed to create things they needed. For example, Stables, signs and any other useful material they needed. Most of their work required physical fitness but also had to use their brain for a few things. Such as navigate through places in order to find a certain place. Also, to find animals.

Second, cowboys were required to have a variety of skills. Cowboys were known for their skills for all around things. Such as nursing, navigating, and physical labor. There are much more than just that. The cowboys were a nurse to the animals that were wounded. Cowboys were needed to keep the animals healthy in order to produce the things that they needed. Also cowboys were known for adapting to their surroundings very quickly. When they would travel the cowboys would need to use their natural resources around them to get them through to their destination. They were good navigators as well. They would know where they were going without a map or a gps. They recognized familiar areas that they have traveled in. The cowboys also needed skills in working with wood. They were needed to build the things they needed. Such as wagons, fences and many other things that were needed around the ranch.

Last, Cowboys needed to be physically fit. Cowboys were needed to get food a supply for their families. Sometimes they would not even get the portion of food that they hoped for. Most of the time they would just eat a lot of beans. The cowboys needed to do physical labor such as building things that they needed. They also needed to be able to ride horses and cattle. Cowboys were needed to maintain the ranch. They worked in any weather condition whether it was cold, sunny, rainy, or gloomy. They worked to maintain posture. Cowboys are also known for keeping the animals in good condition. If the animals were in need of medical attention they would need to treat them in any way possible. Most of the times the animals that were injured had minor scrapes and the cowboys would have to cure them. Sometimes they were severely injured and would have to deal with that situation.

In, conclusion, caring for the ranch, having great skills, and being physically fit are all what cowboys had. Having the job of a cowboy was not a easy task. It required strength and great skills. A daily life of a cowboy was working all day and making sure things were correctly organized. If any of the animals were injured they would have to cure the animal in any way that it could. Cowboys in movies live an easy life but do not show the struggles the cowboy encounters in real life.

to blog or not to blog

I agree and disagree with the blogging assessment system for many reasons. The pros of the blogging system are, it can help students work on their writing, and it prepares students for college requirements. The negative side of the blogging system is, it can affect our grades and not knowing what to write after I have proved my point.
First, blogging helps us students work on our writing. In most of my classes we do not write much. Besides taking notes and taking tests. Blogging takes us out of our usual rutein and makes us do something extra. The last time I wrote an essay was last year. This year I am asked to do so every week as a graded assignment. Also as Mr. Meechin said, we can send colleges our writing. What is better than sending a million blog topics and weekly articles to the college we apply for? My writing is not the best but doing blogs helps me work on my writing.

Next, Blogging prepares students for college requirements. Students like myself are all use to writing short little paragraphs as a requirement for a class assignment. The weekly article is an assignment that challenges many of us to expand our writing. It makes us go into details and specifics instead of being broad. 600 words minimum is our weekly assignment. I thought Mr. Meechin was crazy when he said this. Two blog topics plus a weekly article. From what I have heard essays are done weekly. Us students our in a habit of doing broad paragraph assignments. This also helps improve and give us an idea of what we will be doing in college. We will be using our computers for every assignment. We will be doing a lot of researching and writing essays on what we have researched.

After, weekly blogging can affect our grades. Blogging can affect our grades in many ways. For example not being use to the amount of writing done at home is stressful on students. When I was told that I had to write 600 words each week on a topic that I did not find easy I just decided not to do them. Two days before the quarter ends I realize now that the weekly article is a big part of our grades so I have no choice but to do them. Also, there are times where every teacher gives us an assignment and we have to get it done by a certain day but, there is no room for students to finish all assignments at once because there is just to much. Although we have a whole quarter to finish all the blogs that are assigned students tend to get lazy and forget they have these assignments that are due. Also, I work nearly every day and I have no time to myself. So the time that I do get to relax is spent on sleeping and not on the blogs.

Last, not knowing what to write about after I have proved my point. We are assigned to write a 600 word essay on a certain topic that most of us do not like. For example, there is a girl in my class who does all her work and pays attention to every detail that is said. She says the weekly articles are easy but not enough information to give about the certain topic. I believe the weekly articles should be cut down to 400 words minimum. After proving our points why should we keep typing about things we do not even know about what we are writing about? Students add extra information that is not necessary. They are just trying to get to a certain limit.

In, Conclusion, blogging helps with our writing, helps us prepare for college, blogging affects our grades, and lastly adding extra unwanted information are all reasons why blogging helps and does not help us students. I believe there should be blogs but cut the weekly articles down to 400.

Equal

I believe there is no difference between writing on paper and typing it on the computer but, I prefer typing. I think writing two blogs on two pieces a paper is a waist of paper. Why would you want to write it when you can just type it? We have technology for a reason. Why not use it? I would also type it than write it cause my hand writing is messy and you will not understand what I am writing.

Oregon trail

I do not like blogging but it is much better than writing it on pen and paper. But my favorite blog topic of first quarter is playing Oregon trail. Oregon trail isnt a fun game but is an addicting game. It tells the life of a journey that a family takes. Also teaches that strategies are important if you wanted to make it to your destination. This is my favorite because it gave me a chance to play a game rather than having to think of what I have to write about. Kind of what I am doing now.

New life

immigrants coming to the united states were probably excited. They wanted to start a new life and live the way they wanted. They had plenty of children so they probably wanted a better life for their children. The immigrants had a long journey to the united states but it was worth it. They were hopping for freedom and hopped for things to be perfect. The condition of the ship they were on were not good but those who survived were hopping to start a new beginning with their family.

Blood shot eyes

Factory workers were mistreated in several ways. For example, they were not properly fed. Factory workers were starved and would be happy to get a piece of bread. Another example of mistreatment is they worked from night to morning. They worked so much their eyes were red. They would fall asleep on what they were stitching. The ladys were not properly dressed. They were dressed in “un-womanly rags”. The working conditions were also dirty. They worked all day as a daily routine.

six word story

Heading west, ehausted, starving, miles away

brain sticker

gaming can potentially connect with learning in several ways. For example oregon trail teaches you the real life experiences they took while they traveled. Gaming sticks to most peoples brain than reading off a book. I played oregon trail for an hour and it was getting addicting. being able to manage my equipment and money. Also, making the right decisions to stay in a good health. It explained the obstacles they faced while on their journey. for example Fire, broken leg, and a snake bite. If i read the journey that i played i would think it was boring and not pay attention to the text.

slaves

The reconstruction affected the former slaves in many ways. Fore example, sharecropping. Ex slaves were granted a piece of land that they had to pay for. The land owners also charged interest. There were also disadvantages of the ex-slaves having a piece of land. Many of them would fall in debt because they would be lent tools and supplies that they could not afford to pay off. The ex-slaves were still being treated like slaves because the land owners were not paying them much money. Also, the ex-slaves were doing all the work for the land owners.

Forgiving

Granting amnesty to the south is a great idea for many reasons. There were three parts of the reconstruction plan. Amnesty, replace people who were not willing to change and, forgive confederate officials. Without forgiving the south Lincolns plan would not run how he wanted. Lincoln wanted to make a new start.

Privacy

Thoreau said “that government is best which governs least”. He is implying that a government that does not interfere in people’s life is best. For example if a government decided to put a soldier in every house to protect you and your family. You would have to give him a place to sleep and also food to eat. A government that respects your privacy is best.

Stereo types

Stereo types are so widely known because many people believe it. For example if there are more than 75% of the people that think something is true than the other 25% of people will slowly start believing the other 75% are true. “All Asians are smart”. Many people believe that because others believe it. Stereotypes are like rumors. People believe what they hear.

young lies

Question # 4

Before taking American history I knew nothing more than United States was always known as the “winner” and john smith was known as the “good guy”. Two weeks into the class is where things changed. I have been lied to. I have been taught with missing pieces of history. Younger students should not be lied to. If they are too young to understand John Smith was not a handsome and friendly guy than do not lie and teach the wrong things. United States should teach younger students the truth about history and not lies. For Example I have been in school for eleven years and did not know that United States lost a war. I have been lied to just to make our country look like a “winner”. Teaching younger students from the start about the true facts of history gives them a better view of things.

U.S lies

Question # 1
Knowing there are lies in history is all new to me, although now it is all clear. Countries are not known for the battles they have lost but, are known for being the winners!"History is the lie commonly agreed upon." Voltaire is considering what countries are doing in order to make themselves look better than others. Countries leave out information in texts books. In world history I did not hear or learn about anything that had to deal with the United States loosing a war. Now knowing that the United States leaves out vital information I feel lied to. History is an important part of our lives for many reasons. The past is what is today. Wars that have been fought sculpted today’s society. Knowing how and why we are here should be something we all want to know. We should be aware of what is coming our way because as we all know, history repeats itself.
